Brooklyn Community Foundation is the first and only public foundation solely dedicated to Brooklyn’s charitable community. We are on a mission to spark lasting social change, mobilizing people, capital and expertise for a fair and just Brooklyn.

Our grantmaking and community leadership programs are informed by a long track record of philanthropic excellence. Since our founding in 2009, the Foundation and our donors have provided over $20 million in grants to more than 300 nonprofits throughout the borough, bolstering vital programs and services while responding to urgent community needs and opportunities to fuel community-led change.

In 2015, Brooklyn Community Foundation is launching three distinct core programs that will enable us to be a transformative force for Brooklyn:

INVEST IN YOUTH The Foundation’s primary grantmaking and community leadership initiative will focus on creating better opportunities and a stronger future for Brooklyn’s next generation. Grants and special initiatives will support youth development and leadership programs, youth justice reforms, and increased services for immigrant youth and families.

NEIGHBORHOOD STRENGTH The Foundation will manage and oversee a new grantmaking approach to address key areas of concern identified by community stakeholders and experts in high-need neighborhoods. This new model of philanthropy will launch in Crown Heights, the Foundation’s new home.

BROOKLYN ACCELERATOR A hub for strengthening Brooklyn’s vibrant nonprofit sector. Includes an annual awards program, an incubator for startup organizations within the Foundation’s office, board training and matching, and resources and information that provide capacity building for local nonprofits.
